An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding.
A lactation consultant can assist you with learning to latch your baby on, how to know your baby is getting enough milk, how to learn when your baby wants to eat, and how to avoid future problems.
IBCLCs work in a wide variety of health care settings, including hospitals, pediatric offices, public health clinics, and private practice.
Pamela Holland is a board certified lactation consultant who has worked with moms and babies of Southeast GA in the public health sector for the past twenty years.
As a health care professional, she knows that there can be extenuating circumstances that may make breastfeeding difficult, at best. As a mother and grandmother, she knows how hard a mother can be on herself when breastfeeding does not go as smoothly as the books say it should.
Breastfeeding is a natural process but it may not always be easy . Caesarean delivery, multiple births, and proximity of extended family are just a few of the challenges that are typical in today’s newborn delivery. A cookie cutter approach will not work for everyone.
“Each mom and baby are unique and must have a personal plan of care that is specific to their needs.”
